My Films

These few samples show the progression I have made from High School to College in my filmmaking skills. Aside from the cost of film or videotape (no more than $60 for any film), these were shot with no budget whatsoever.

College

The following project is the product of a year's work, and is just now in its finished form:

Three Weeks at Brown University:

A UCS Election

Running time: 50min
The intellectual, the jock, and the anarchist face off in a battle for the UCS presidency! Through this documentary about student governments at Brown University, we get a glimpse into the culture of Brown and the way student politicians operate.
See the glowing review at ivygateblog!

The Great Debaters re-edited trailer

Running time: 1:22
This trailer is made for a class, meant to promote urban debate in local schools with a creative re-edit of the official trailer from the Denzel Washington movie The Great Debaters with a 60 Minutes episode. I tried to keep the look and feel of the original trailer while changing the message.

New York Film Academy

At the New York Film Academy in Florence, I had the opportunity to make films on 16mm:

Restraint

Running time: 3:30
Boy likes girl, but he is very inexperienced. Restraint tells a quick, playful tale of attraction.

The Engagement

Running time: 1:16
The assignment was to tell an entire story using just one shot. See how much you can figure out.

"Amazing Grace"

Running time: 3:50
A music video set to Leann Rimes' haunting rendition of "Amazing Grace." A heart attack and a love lost...

High School

At Harvard-Westlkake High School, I took two years of Video Art and was therefore given the opportunity to use the school equipment for projects.

Stress

Winner of a High School film festival

Running time: 2:30
If any complaint about Harvard-Westlake high school is valid, it is that students are stressed. Lindsey Rosin ('03) and I set out to get a picture of the campus climate.

Nightmare on North Faring

Running time: 15:34
The Student Council decided to do something different than their typical end-of-year assembly, so I directed a short mystery. The Wolverine (the school mascot) has been kidnapped and it is up to the student council to find him. The film includes a light saber fight, disappearing people, and a villain that will surprise you.
